Job summary

HSM (Hickory Springs Manufacturing) Company is seeking a Tool & Die Technician to design, build, repair, and maintain stamping dies and related tooling on site in Hickory, NC. You will operate manual and CNC machines, interpret blueprints, and ensure tooling meets quality standards.

The role emphasizes safety, craftsmanship, and teamwork, with opportunities to mentor apprentices and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within our tooling shop.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required; vocational or technical training in Tool & Die preferred.
• Strong experience with stamping dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, and metalworking techniques.
• Proficiency operating manual and CNC machining equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, repair, and maintain stamping dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, and production tooling.
• Set up and operate manual and CNC machining equipment (lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders, saws).
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot tooling issues to minimize downtime.
• Read and interpret blueprints and engineering specifications.
• Inspect finished components using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and indicators.
• Mentor trainees as needed and support safety and continuous improvement.

What You Will Do:

• Design, build, repair, and maintain stamping dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, and production tooling
• Set up and operate manual and CNC machining equipment, including lathes, Bridgeport mills, drill presses, grinders, and saws
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot tooling issues to minimize downtime
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering specifications
• Inspect finished components using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and indicators
• Partner with Production and Maintenance teams to improve tooling performance and manufacturing efficiency
• Maintain accurate maintenance, repair, and modification records
• Mentor Tool & Die trainees or apprentices as needed
• Follow all safety, quality, and 5S standards while supporting continuous improvement initiatives

What You Bring:
