Volkert Precision Technologies, a long‑standing leader in precision metal stampings, offers a New York State registered apprenticeship for Tool and Die Apprentices. You will work alongside experienced tool and die makers on multi-slide and transfer press operations toward becoming a certified Tool and Die Maker.

The program emphasizes learning to read blueprints, set up and operate lathes, mills, shapers, and grinders, while meeting tight tolerances and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Education: high school or vocational school
• Ability to read/write English
• Interpret engineering specifications, drawings, and operative sheets
• Mathematical aptitude with geometric and trig formulas
• Work with close dimensional tolerances and use precision measuring instruments
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Able to work independently
• Full-time hourly employee

Responsibilities

• Constructs, alters, and repairs tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to close tolerance
• Sets up and operates lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders to machine parts
• Studies specifications and blueprints
• Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layouts and detail drawings
• Develops fabrication strategies for dies using suitable machining resources
• Meets quality and efficiency expectations
• Maintains safety and clean work areas
