Job summary

Volkert Precision Technologies seeks experienced Tool and Die Makers to join our Long Island area operations. You will work on progressive, multi-slide and transfer press operations, reading blueprints and specs to fabricate and repair dies, tools, jigs, and gauges with close tolerances.

We value independent workers with strong troubleshooting skills who can read engineering documents and work safely in a precision shop. Apprentices are welcome to apply for long-term careers with us.

Qualifications

• Education: high school or vocational training, apprentice program is a plus.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in tool and die.
• Ability to read/write English and interpret engineering drawings.
• Skilled with close tolerances and precision measuring tools.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
• Capable of working independently and in a team.
• Knowledge of machine shop practices and operations.

Responsibilities

• Construct, alter, and repair tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to close tolerances.
• Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
• Study specifications, blueprints, and tool orders; draw sketches and layouts.
• Develop fabrication strategies for dies using suitable machining resources.
• Meet quality and efficiency expectations while maintaining safety and a clean workplace.
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain orderly work areas.

Volkert Precision Technologies, an expert in manufacturing precision metal stampings, are always looking for experienced Tool and Die Makers.

We turn coils of thin to medium gauge metals into precise intricate stamped components for the electronics, military, medical, aerospace, automotive industries.

Are you looking to leverage your expertise and expand your capabilities? We are looking for individuals who have obtained knowledge and skills to work alongside other experienced tool and die makers on progressive, Multi-Slide (Fourslide) and transfer (eyelet) press operations. Apprentices are also welcome to apply.

Job Responsibilities:

• Constructs, alters, and repairs a wide variety of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to very close tolerance
• Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts
• Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders
• Draws preliminary sketches, prepares layout and detail drawings
• Develops strategies for fabricating designed dies using most suitable to machining resources
• Meets all quality and efficiency expectations
• Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas

Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

• Education minimum 4 years of high school/vocational school, completion of apprentice program a plus.
• Work experience minimum of 3 years
• Ability to read/write English
• Interpret engineering specifications, including operative sheets, drawings, and sketches
• Mathematical aptitude: demonstrated ability for using shop mathematics including geometric and trigonometric formulas
• Work with close dimensional tolerances and use all types of precision measuring instruments
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Able to work independently
• Knowledge of machine shop practices and operations
• Full time hourly employee
