Job summary

Moog Inc. in Blacksburg, VA is seeking a Tool Designer to create 3D models and 2D schematics for molds, fixtures, and tools using CAD software. You will partner with Manufacturing Engineers to support tooling design and continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate has a HS diploma or GED and at least 3 years in machine shop or 2 years as a Tool Designer, with 3D printing experience a plus. A strong detail orientation, independence, and ability to travel internationally are essential.

Qualifications

HS diploma or GED required.
3+ years of machine shop experience OR 2+ years as a Tool Designer OR equivalent education/experience.
3D printing experience is a plus.
Quality conscious with strong mechanical aptitude and dexterity.
Self-starter, able to work independently and take initiative.
Strong teamwork orientation and cross-functional collaboration.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to travel internationally once per year.

Responsibilities

Create 3D models and 2D schematics for molds, fixtures, and tooling using CAD software.
Partner with Manufacturing Engineers to support tooling design and continuous improvement.
Select materials for tool construction considering durability, heat resistance, machinability and cost.
Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for designed tools.
Check and maintain tool drawings and documentation for accuracy and configuration control.
Analyze production/tooling issues and implement corrective solutions.
Assist in training and cross-training of others.
Work with minimal supervision and perform other duties as assigned.
