Job summary

Viant Medical in Illinois is seeking a Tooling and Inventory Specialist to manage tooling orders, stock levels, and perishable supplies on the production floor.

You will cooperate with machinists, maintain accurate inventories, and ensure compliance with safety standards while supporting lean improvements. This on-site role requires attention to detail and the ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Trade school or 3 years shop experience preferred.
  • Able to read and understand blueprints.
  • Able to use measuring equipment including micrometers, comparator, and gages.
  • Able to use inventory control system and ERP.
  • Able to follow instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Willing to work in a safety-conscious environment and wear PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tooling per machine/setup schedule for release to floor.
  • Grind tools for shop personnel as needed.
  • Maintain inventory locations on perishable tooling and shop supplies.
  • Issue tooling and supplies to shop personnel accurately and timely.
  • Maintain inventories of supplies and tooling (oil, coolant, etc.).
  • Minimize inventory levels while meeting production needs.
  • Order tooling and establish Kanban quantities.
  • Manage MSC tooling, min/max levels and technical issues.
  • Run MSC reports to manage tooling orders and inventories.
  • Track tooling orders, logistics, and lead times.
  • Record invoices/packing slips; liaise with AP for payments.
  • Work with management to stay within budget.
  • Receive perishable tooling and shop supplies; label chemicals.
  • Coordinate with vendors to secure best tooling for jobs.
  • Quote prices and availability for business needs.
  • Re-measure and record data from special tooling.
  • Responsible for carbide scrap and recycling; remanufacture routing.
  • Send dull tooling for re-sharpening; resolve tooling issues with machinists.
  • Supply machinists with job folders, fixturing and tool kits.
  • Collaborate on special projects or lean improvements; keep area clean.
  • Other duties as necessary.

We offer market competitive compensation. Potential salary range for this role is $20.00–$35.00 hourly wage. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Prepare all tooling per machine/ setup schedule for release to the floor shop personnel
  • Grind all tools for shop personnel as needed
  • Maintain and correct inventory locations on perishable tooling and shop supplies
  • Issue tooling and other supplies from the crib to shop personnel in an accurate and timely manner
  • Maintain accurate inventories of supplies and tooling (i.e oil, coolant, cleaning supplies, etc.)
  • Focus is on accuracy and minimizing inventory levels to the lowest level while still meeting the needs of the production floor
  • Order tooling as required; establish acceptable Kanban quantities
  • Responsible for MSC Vending Machine tooling, Min/Max management levels and technical issues.
  • Run reports through MSC to manage tooling orders and inventory levels.
  • Keeping track of tooling orders- logistics and lead times.
  • Keeping record of all invoices/packing slips
  • Working with AP to resolve invoicing and payment issues
  • Working with management to keep in line with budget
  • Receiving all inventory for perishable tooling and shop supplies, EDM Wire coolant/ Oil barrels and storing properly.
  • Inspecting all chemicals received and placing proper labels on them
  • Working with vendors and tool reps to secure best tooling possible for jobs
  • Quoting for price and availability based on business needs.
  • Re-measuring and recording data from all special tooling.
  • Responsible for carbide scrap and recycling.
  • Collect dull tooling and send out to be re-sharpened.
  • Working with machinist to resolve tooling issues
  • Working between buildings to supply machinist with job folders, fixturing and tool kits
  • Working with other departments on special projects or lean improvements.
  • Keep work area clean
  • Other duties as necessary
Environmental working conditions
  • Working with cutting & machining fluids, solvents, lubricants and other hazardous chemicals using appropriate safety controls
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Moderate to significant amounts of bending, lifting, twisting and sitting.
  • Moderate to significant periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be willing and able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to steel toed shoes.
