Tool Control Specialist II

Position Summary:


The Tool Control Specialist II will work with limited supervision to source tooling and components, support quotations and manufacturing activities, and act as a backup for other locations when needed. They will also assist with identifying alternative tooling suppliers to support production. This position requires providing manufacturing support after hours and on the weekend. Working in a team environment the Tool Control Specialist II will collaborate with Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing and other internal team members.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Support all production departments by maintaining adequate levels of tooling, and ensure tooling is delivered to production.

  • Resolve any issues or discrepancies with suppliers and deliveries.

  • Maintain accurate records of purchase, pricing, and supplier performance.

  • Coordinate with Logistics and warehouse teams to ensure timely delivery of goods.

  • Monitor inventory levels and manage stock replenishment.

  • Coordinate various types of purchase orders with manufacturing on a daily basis, preparing and issuing as needed.

  • Maintain the Tool Inventory Management System (TIMS).

  • Investigate cost-effective tooling repair options that will ensure high-quality of work.

  • Review and approve assigned inventory forecasts produced by the Guhring and Tool boss application.

  • Review and approve daily replenishment recommendations produced by the Guhring and Tool boss application.

  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.

  • Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.

  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • High School diploma or equivalent required, Associate's degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of previous work experience in Supply Chain, Purchasing, or 3+ years experience as Tool Control Specialist I.

  • Possess a solid understanding of tooling within the manufacturing environment.

  • 2+ years' experience with ERP systems, preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Oracle experience preferred.

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

  • Possess a basic understanding of manufacturing engineering and technical drawings.

  • Possess the ability to read and understand prints.

  • Strong understanding of technical specifications and requirements.

  • Experience negotiating terms, pricing and contracts with vendors.

  • Ability to use best judgement to assess reliability of suppliers, manage supplier relationships, and monitor supplier performance.


Working Conditions:



  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.

  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.

  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.

  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.

  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.

  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.

  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.

  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.

  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
