Job summary

Jobot is seeking an experienced Tool and Die Machinist in Wallingford, CT to build, repair, and maintain plastic injection molds and tooling. The role involves diagnosing mold issues, performing preventative maintenance, and working with engineers to improve cycle times and mold reliability.

A hands-on professional will operate mills, lathes, grinders, and other precision equipment. You will join a small, experienced team with opportunities for growth, salary progression based on performance,

Qualifications

  • Experience building and maintaining plastic injection molds and tooling.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, and tooling specs.
  • Strong precision measurement skills with micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges.

Responsibilities

  • Build, repair, maintain, and modify plastic injection molds, dies, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Diagnose mold issues and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime.
  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment such as mills, lathes, and grinders.
  • Machine, fit, and finish mold components and read drawings accurately.
  • Support mold changes and continuous improvement projects to improve cycle times and quality.
  • Maintain records of mold repairs and tooling history.

A bit about us:

We are a growing plastic injection molding company looking to add an experienced Tool and Die Machinist to our team. This is a hands on position for someone who has experience working with injection molds and understands what it takes to keep tooling running properly. You will join a small, experienced team with the opportunity to take on more responsibility and grow with the company.

Job Details
  • Build, repair, maintain, and modify plastic injection molds, dies, fixtures, and tooling to support production requirements
  • Diagnose mold issues including flash, dimensional problems, wear, damage, alignment issues, cooling problems, and other tooling related defects
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on injection molds to improve reliability, extend tooling life, and reduce production downtime
  • Disassemble molds, inspect individual components, identify worn or damaged parts, complete repairs, and properly reassemble tooling for production
  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment including mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, and other precision machine tools
  • Machine, fit, and finish mold components such as cores, cavities, inserts, pins, bushings, slides, and other tooling components
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and tooling specifications to complete repairs and modifications accurately
  • Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and other inspection equipment
  • Troubleshoot molds directly with production and processing teams to identify root causes of tooling related quality or performance issues
  • Perform polishing, grinding, fitting, spotting, and bench work required to bring molds and components back to specification
  • Support mold changes, engineering modifications, and continuous improvement projects to improve cycle times, part quality, and overall mold performance
  • Maintain accurate records of mold repairs, preventative maintenance, modifications, and tooling history
  • Work closely with engineering, maintenance, quality, and production teams to minimize downtime and keep injection molding operations running efficiently
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tool room while properly caring for machines, tools, and equipment
