Job summary

Fitfastener in Compton, CA is seeking a skilled tool and die maker under general supervision to set up and machine components for multiple manufacturing lines.

You will work with slip and press fit tooling, read blueprints, use micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments, and perform tight-tolerance work on mills, lathes, grinders and fixtures. A minimum of 3–5 years' experience is required. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Blueprint reading is required.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, comparators).
• Shop math skills used regularly to verify tolerances.
• Experience managing tight tolerances with mills, lathes, grinders.

Job description

Under general supervision and according to established policy and procedures the tool and die maker is responsible for performing his/her own set-ups and machine/grind all necessary components required to complete assignments given to support all manufacturing product lines.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Strong understanding of slip and press fit relationships.
• Repair Header tools and make complete header tool components.
• Work with carbide, hardened tool steels, dies and cutting tools to close tolerance.
• Work with mills, lathes, surface grinders, hones and fixtures.
• Use shop math as required.
• Clean and maintain the work area.

Skills and Formal Training Requirements/Experience

• Shop math
• Must be able to read blueprints.
• Use measuring instruments (i.e., micrometers, calipers, comparators).
• Minimum of 3-5 years experience as a tool maker for a manufacturing facility.
