Job summary

Licking Memorial Health Systems in Ohio seeks a Tobacco Treatment Specialist to support the Quit for Your Health program. You will deliver individualized counseling, using motivational interviewing, to help participants quit tobacco or nicotine after an initial consultation.

Requirements include current Tobacco Treatment Specialist certification or the ability to obtain it after hire, at least an Associates degree (Bachelor's preferred), and strong interpersonal and communication skills;

Qualifications

• Must have Tobacco Treatment Specialist certification or be able to obtain certification after hire by attending tobacco treatment training.
• Minimum of Associates Degree; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching and education using motivational interviewing and relapse prevention strategies to support tobacco cessation.
• Utilize evidence-based techniques while providing one-on-one counseling to create an individualized treatment plan.
• Assess and evaluate patients and develop care plans incorporating nicotine replacement therapies.
• Provide assistance in developing effective coping strategies to stay tobacco-free.
• Attend and present at community education events as needed.
• Participate in ongoing training and education to maintain quality standards.

Summary

Licking Memorial Hospital (LMH) Tobacco Cessation Program, Quit for Your Health, is designed to help people stop using tobacco or nicotine. For most individuals, this requires the support of a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialists. Our counselors utilize evidence-based techniques to help participants develop a plan that will offer an opportunity to become tobacco-free. Following the initial consultation, participants are counseled individually for one or more additional sessions. These counseling sessions will provide techniques to cope with the behavioral and lifestyle changes that come when quitting tobacco/nicotine use.

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching and education using motivational interviewing, self-management education and relapse prevention strategies to support tobacco cessation
• Utilize evidence-based techniques while providing one-on-one counseling to create an individualized plan of treatment
• Assess and evaluate patients and develop plan of care integrating various nicotine replacement therapy
• Provides assistance in developing effective coping strategies to keep clients tobacco-free
• Attend and present at community education events as needed
• Participate in continuous training and education to maintain quality standards

Requirements

• Must have current Tobacco Treatment Specialist certification or be able to obtain certification after hire by attending tobacco treatment training
• Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills
• Minimum of Associates Degree, Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
• At least one year's experience in counseling, health education, or patient care preferred
• Must be nicotine free
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Must be an adaptable team player
• LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.
