Job summary

Schaeffler Cheraw site seeks a hands-on Maintenance Lead for 1st shift to oversee machine repairs and preventative maintenance. You will guide a team of technicians, escalate issues, and coordinate with production and engineering to maintain equipment availability and safety.

The role requires strong mechanical repair background, leadership skills, and the ability to read drawings and follow instructions in English. Shift availability and overtime may be required at times.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with extensive field experience.
• Ability to use measuring instruments and identify defects.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, manuals and technical documents.
• 3–5 years of mechanical machine repair experience.
• Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and work with complex machinery.
• Shift work, overtime and weekend availability may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop maintenance staff and ensure proper maintenance of production machines.
• Monitor maintenance effectiveness and coordinate resources and processes.
• Support technicians and ensure performance standards are met.
• Manage service providers and service level achievements.
• Guide technicians performing repairs and escalations when needed.
• Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
• Troubleshoot mechanical failures and coordinate rapid repairs.
• Ensure equipment availability, reliability and safety compliance.
• Maintain maintenance records, work orders and spare parts usage.
• Coordinate with production, engineering and other departments.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop maintenance staff, and ensure proper execution of maintenance and repair of production machines in a segment or facility equipment for plant buildings as assigned.

• Monitor effectiveness of maintenance and repair activities, coordinate respective resources and processes.

• Support Maintenance Technicians, and ensure achievement of agreed performance standards.

• Manage service provider and continuously check for achievements of service level agreed, if required.

• Guiding technicians who are performing mechanicl achine repairs and mechanical tasks

• Owning the process of escalating a situation that a technician out of the team can’t solve

• Identifying repeat failures and work with the maintenance planning side to update preventive maintenance task list

• Support troubleshooting activities and recognize the moment when sombody more advanced needs to be added to a job

• Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities

• Troubleshoot mechanical failures and coordinate rapid repairs

• Ensure equipment availability, reliability, and compliance with standards

• Support installation, commissioning, and modification of machinery

• Maintain maintenance records, work orders, and spare parts usage

• Enforce safety procedures and safe work practices

• Coordinate with production, engineering, and other departments

• Train, coach, and develop team members

• Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction

• Inspect mechanical systems such as pumps, motors, compressors, conveyors, bearings, gearboxes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems

• Review maintenance schedules and prioritize urgent tasks

• Assign technicians based on skill and workload

• Verify quality of completed work and equipment performance

• Support root cause analysis for repeated failures

• Manage spare parts and maintenance tools

• Ensure compliance with lockout/tagout and other safety requirements

Your Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent combined with extensive work experience in this field

• Ability to use instruments for measuring and to identify defects

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, understand instructions and write clear communications in English

• Ability to understand and operate complex machinery

• Good visual acuity

• Ability to lift heavy objects if required

• External applicants must be authorized to work in the US without employment visa or other sponsorship

• At least 3-5 years of technical experience with mechanical machine repair

• Ability to give guidance to technicians who are executing machine repairs

• Ability to read mechanical drawings, manuals, and technical documents

• Ability to dentify repeat failures and work with the maintenance planning side to update preventive maintenance task list

• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, maintenance methods, and safety regulations

• Problem-solving and troubleshooting

• Basic computer skills and documentation accuracy

• Root cause analysis and continuous improvement mindset

• Ability to work under pressure and manage emergencies

• May require shift work, overtime, and weekend availability

Preferred:

• Assoicates or Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline

• Multiple years of experience operating and handling complex machinery in a manufacturing environment

• Experience working with power tools

• Ability to run a milling machine and lathe

• Ability to manufacture new parts (or repair broken ones) with whats available to prevent extensive downtimes

• Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred

• Experience in manufacturing, automotive, or heavy industry

• Familiarity with Lean Maintenance or TPM
