Job summary

Arts in Action seeks an Elementary Assistant Teacher for the Transitional Kindergarten Program in Los Angeles. You will support teachers by working with individuals or small groups, serving as a substitute when needed, and performing various classroom and program duties.

The role emphasizes ethics, relationship-building, behavior management, and delivering targeted intervention. A BA and credential process support are required, with potential after-school responsibilities and meal supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; commit to obtain a 30-day substitute credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing immediately upon hire.
• Ability to establish productive working relationships with staff, students and stakeholders.
• Ability to work on multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
• Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Bilingual Spanish preferred.
• Growth mindset and love of learning.
• Effective instructional strategies and engagement techniques.
• Strong classroom management and safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a high degree of ethics and professionalism.
• Execute whole group and small group instructional activities.
• Assist in social development of students.
• Implement behavior management plans designed by teachers and administration.
• Administer redirection per school’s positive behavior plan.
• Substitute teach on an as-needed basis.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Deliver intervention lessons to targeted students.
• Assist with school-wide benchmarks and state assessments.
• Supervise students and ensure safety guidelines are followed.
• Build relationships with students, staff and parents.
• Follow directions of teachers and school leaders.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the School Director.
• Oversee meal program supervision and after-school activities as hours permit.
• Assist in after-school programs and support group instruction.
• Assist with student toileting and health-related needs as applicable.
