Job summary

Arts in Action Community Charter School in Los Angeles is seeking an Elementary Assistant Teacher for the Transitional Kindergarten program. You will support assigned teachers, work with individual students or small groups, and substitute when needed.

The role emphasizes ethics, classroom management, and building relationships with students, families, and staff. A BA is required and a substitute credential must be obtained within 30 days of hire; bilingual Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a high degree of ethics and professionalism.
• Executes whole group and small group instructional activities.
• Assists in the social development of students.
• Implements behavior management strategies.
• Administers redirection and consequences per the school’s positive behavior support plan.
• Ability and willingness to substitute teach on an as-needed basis.
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
• Delivers high-quality intervention lessons to targeted students.
• Assists in the administration of school-wide benchmarks and state assessments.
• Supervises and guides students to adhere to the school’s safety guidelines and proactively minimizes accidents.
• Builds relationships with students, staff, and parents.
• Follows the direction and guidance of teachers.
• Other duties as assigned by the School Director.
• Meal Program: Supervision includes playground supervision and/or meal (breakfast, lunch, and potentially supper) supervision and distribution support, which could occur before, during recess, lunch, or after school, depending on the position's hours.
• Note-Assistant Teachers also work during after-school hours and will be in charge of working with groups of students during the after-school program.
• Note: Assistant teachers might also help with student toileting needs and other developmental physical health needs. Training and additional information will be provided if applicable.
