Job summary

Arts in Action Community Charter Schools in Los Angeles, CA is seeking an Elementary Assistant Teacher for the TK program to support teachers and students in small groups and as a substitute when needed.

The role emphasizes ethics, instructional support, behavior management, and collaboration with families; candidates must hold a BA and pursue a substitute credential. After-school duties and meal supervision may apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; commitment to obtain a 30‑day substitute credential in California immediately after hire.
• Ability to build productive relationships with staff, students, and stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
• Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
• Growth mindset and love of learning; bilingual Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a high degree of ethics and professionalism.
• Lead whole group and small group instructional activities.
• Assist in social development of students.
• Implement behavior management strategies per plan.
• Administer redirection and consequences per PBSP.
• Substitute teach as needed.
• Protect student confidentiality and ethics.
• Deliver intervention lessons to targeted students.
• Assist with school-wide benchmarks and state assessments.
• Supervise students to follow safety guidelines and reduce incidents.
• Build relationships with students, staff and parents.
• Follow direction of teachers and school leadership.
• Other duties as assigned by the School Director.
• Support after-school groups; supervise meals and playground as hours permit.
• Assist with toilet and health needs; training provided as applicable.
