Alanson Area Consortium for Title VI Services is seeking part-time tutors to support Native American students across several locations, including Alanson. The role focuses on reading, math, and science support, plus cultural awareness activities for the current school year (2026-2027).

Qualifications

  • Desire to work with school age Native American/Alaskan Native students in reading, math, and sciences.
  • Understanding of basic math concepts including beginning algebra.
  • Ability to work closely with teachers, staff, administration, and tribal representatives to build trust.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to address student needs and collaborate with families.
  • Basic computer skills including email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Background in education is preferred, but not required; background check and fingerprinting required.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students across multiple locations (Alanson, Mackinaw City, Indian River, Wolverine) and provide cultural awareness activities.
  • Contribute to language development and tribal community ties as part of Title VI services.
  • Assist with travel between school locations when required; compensation provided for travel.

Description

Part time positions are available with the Alanson Area Consortium for Title VI Services: tutoring and cultural awareness for Native Americans, for the current school year of 2026-2027. Initially, the position will be funded up to 16 hours at a rate of $16.00 per hour for each location. Positions will have responsibilities in Mackinaw City, Indian River, Wolverine, and Alanson or a combination of all. There is compensation for travel between schools if required. Interviews will be held in September of 2026 at a place and date to be determined.

Alanson Area Consortium for Title VI Services

Requirements
  • Desire to work with school age students of Native American, Alaskan Indian, or Hawaiian Native descendance, from kindergarten to senior high in remedial and/or enrichment areas of reading, math and sciences. Additionally, significant time is dedicated to cultural awareness, language development, historical understanding and developing strong ties within the tribal communities. The successful candidate will be willing to assist in these areas with tribal representatives.
  • Understanding of basic math principles including beginning algebra. Resources are available for use in the assigned schools for higher level needs.
  • Ability to work closely with teachers, staff, administration, and tribal representatives to develop relationships of mutual trust and collaboration.
  • Many of our students are in need of personal attention beyond subject matter help. A successful candidate will have interpersonal relationship skills to accommodate these needs.
  • Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: email, word processing, spreadsheets
  • A background in education is preferred, but not required.
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check and be fingerprinted.
