Job summary

Fairfax County Public Schools' Chief Equity Office is seeking a senior investigator to handle complex civil rights and misconduct cases involving students. The role ensures prompt, thorough, and impartial processes, gathering testimony and documents, interviewing participants, and maintaining rigorous case management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (civil rights, HR, law, etc.)
• Four years of experience in investigation
• Advanced degree may be considered for some experience
• Knowledge of state and federal laws related to labor law compliance (Title VII, ADA, Title IX)
• Knowledge of investigative best practices and interviewing techniques
• Proficiency with technology for data compilation, manipulation, analysis, and reporting
• Conflict resolution and mediation knowledge
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work under stress
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to facilitate meetings and present information to groups

Responsibilities

• Conducts complex investigations of civil rights and misconduct involving students
• Ensure a prompt, thorough, fair, and impartial process
• Gather testimonial, documentary, and physical evidence
• Conduct investigative interviews and review documents and databases
• Maintain comprehensive, accurate case documentation
• Draft formal reporting with findings and analysis
• May represent the program in discipline and grievance hearings
• Ensure compliance with civil rights laws and division policies
• Collaborate with division and outside agencies for case updates
• Provide professional development on Title IX matters
• Develop training materials and participate in communications
• May mediate applicable cases
• Coordinate with Office of the Auditor General on fraud cases
• Maintain confidentiality throughout proceedings
• Perform related duties as required
