Job Description

The Title I Teacher works under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, as well as the building administration, to implement successful reading and/or mathematics instruction for students and performs related duties in accordance with District policies. The Title I Teacher is responsible for group and individual instruction in reading and/or math for students who meet state and federal guidelines. The Title I Teacher is also responsible for partnering with parents through collaboration, communication, and/or training.

Essential Functions

• Implement a variety of assessment instruments to determine the eligibility and instructional needs of students in reading and/or mathematics.
• Collect and monitor student data and provide pre-and post-assessment data as required. Provide a variety of situational, appropriate instructional techniques and methods. Use techniques and methodologies appropriate to student abilities.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction. Organize instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes. Employ teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes. Select teaching strategies emphasizing active student involvement.
• Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective student learning.
• Develop, communicate, and enforce expectations for student behavior and participation.
• Communicate goals and academic expectations to students.
• Provide students with feedback on their performance so they can take an active role in their own success.
• Provide for the health and safety of students in all instructional settings.
• Prepare effectively for reading and/or math instruction:
• Prepare daily lesson plans that address student skill deficits and that actively engage all students.
• Provide instruction based on District reading and math standards.
• Employ effective instructional strategies.
• Communicate learning targets.
• Use a balance of direct instruction, guided practice, and individual practice.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s Degree in the area of major study is required. A Master’s Degree and a minimum of five years of teaching experience are preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant work experience will also be considered.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Massachusetts Teaching License.

Salary

• According to the NMRSDTA Contract (2024-2027)
• Step 1: $33,680 per year
• Step 2: $37,026 per year
• salary is paid out in 25 equal increments, bi-weekly over the course of the school year, with a lump sum payment at the end of the year of payments 21-25

Profile: Spaulding Memorial School has a long tradition of commitment to the elementary school age child. Presently there are approximately 430 students who attend the school and a total of seventy-five staff members. This can only be achieved through a collaborative process which includes an active P.T.O., school council, and volunteer program.The educational program offered by the faculty at Spaulding Memorial is a highly effective elementary school program that encourages each child to develop his/her individual talents and abilities in a caring, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. The curriculum focuses on the Massachusetts State Frameworks for all subject areas. The English Language Arts program incorporates explicit instruction for listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and encourages age appropriate cross-curricular applications. Children are introduced to math through a skills development program, which develops problem-solving techniques and encourages higher-level thinking. Our science curriculum emphasis a hands-on approach, which fosters observations, inquiry, and understanding. Social Studies emphasizes the understanding of family and community through the integration of literature. In addition, children have an opportunity to participate in computer, library, music, art and physical education classes. Our goals are excellence, equal educational opportunities for all and the shaping of the whole child academically and socially.History: Spaulding Memorial School was a gift given to the town by Huntley and Roland Spaulding in the early 1930's. They gave the funding to build a modern school to serve grades one through twelve as a memorial to their parents. Prior to Spaulding Memorial the town had three schools that were crowded, cold and in need of repair. At that time, the advent of Spaulding brought the end of an era of district schools and a new, more united town. The Spaulding brothers ended up spending $250,000 and this was during the depression!Spaulding Memorial School was dedicated to the town of Townsend on its 200 year anniversary, June 29, 1932. Preceded by the biggest parade in Townsend's history, Mr. Frank Wright, Deputy Commissioner of Education of the Commonwealth, said, "Spaulding Memorial School was the finest, consolidated schoolhouse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts."In 1951 six classrooms were added. This addition only temporarily solved the overcrowding problem. By 1955, it was necessary to have double sessions. Also in 1955 it was thought that forming a regional school district would help relieve the overcrowding. The population continued to grow causing a new middle school to be built and a new elementary school opened in 1987 when Spaulding closed. The latest renovation to Spaulding concluded in 1993. Spaulding's interior was beautifully reconstructed. It was important to maintain the historical exterior look of SMS. It now serves kindergarten through fourth grade.
