Job summary

RTX is seeking a Sr. Principal Engineer in East Hartford, CT for the Pratt & Whitney Materials and Processes Engineering group to drive titanium alloys development and legacy alloy support.

The role involves leading initiatives, mentoring engineers, and coordinating with customers across the enterprise to execute R&D on titanium alloy technologies for current and future jet engines. Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
• 10+ years of relevant engineering experience or 7+ years with an advanced degree.
• U.S. Citizenship or Green card holder with ability to obtain U.S. Citizenship.
• Travel: 10% on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

• Lead elements or initiatives related to titanium alloy development, characterization, and production implementation for current and future jet engines.
• Support customers across the enterprise (supply chain, engine programs, advanced technology, production, repair) to plan, execute, and report on technical research and development related to titanium alloys on production and fielded hardware.
• Provide technical mentorship and coaching to early career engineers to execute risk-based decision making.
• Benchmark alloy technology and processes, secure funding, manage projects, and update engineering standard work.
• Identify long-term strategic technology roadmaps and secure internal and external funding for the discipline.
• Interface with external funding sources such as AFRL, DOW, DOE and NASA customers & lab community to seek, secure and execute contracts.
