Job summary

Pratt & Whitney Materials and Processes Engineering (MPE) in East Hartford, CT seeks a Senior Principal Engineer to drive titanium alloy development and legacy alloy support for jet engines.

The role leads development, characterization, and production implementation, mentors junior engineers, and collaborates with customers across the enterprise, including AFRL/DOE/NASA; you will secure funding and shape strategic technology roadmaps while advancing risk-based decision making.

Qualifications

  • BS in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience or 7+ years with an advanced degree.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Green card holder with ability to obtain US Citizenship.
  • 10% Travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Support strategy development, mentor junior engineers, and support execution of test programs.
  • Lead titanium alloy development, characterization, and production implementation for current and future jet engines.
  • Support customers across the enterprise to plan, execute, and report on technical research and development related to titanium alloys.
  • Be a technology leader with responsibilities that include benchmarking alloy technology, securing funding, managing projects, and updating standard work.
  • Support creation and execution of the strategic vision for Discipline including identifying long-term strategic technology roadmaps and securing internal & external funding.
  • Provide technical mentorship and coaching to early career engineers to execute risk-based decision making.
  • Interface with external funding sources such as AFRL, DOD, DOE and NASA customers & lab to seek, secure and execute contracts.

Pratt & Whitney Materials and Processes Engineering (MPE) organization in East Hartford, CT

a P5 Sr. Principal Engineer to drive titanium alloys development and legacy alloy support within Alloy Development group.

What You Will Do:
  • Support strategy development, mentor junior level engineers, and support execution of test programs.
  • Lead elements or entire initiatives related to titanium alloy development, characterization, and production implementation for current and future jet engines.
  • Support customers across the enterprise (supply chain, engine programs, advanced technology, production, repair) to plan, execute, and report on technical research and development related to titanium alloys on production and fielded hardware.
  • The candidate will be viewed as a technology leader with responsibilities that include bench-marking alloy technology and processes, securing funding, managing projects, and updating engineering standard work.
  • Support creation and execution of the strategic vision for Discipline including identifying long-term strategic technology roadmaps and securing internal & external funding.
  • Provide technical mentorship and coaching to early career engineers to execute risk-based decision making.
  • Interface with external funding sources such as the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Department of War (DOW), Department of Energy (DOE) and NASA customers & lab technical community to seek, secure and execute contracts.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • B.S. degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience or 7+ years w/an advanced degree
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen or Green card holder with ability to obtain a US Citizenship.
  • 10% Travel is required
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. with a fundamental understanding of physical metallurgy of titanium alloys and processing
  • Experience in testing and characterization of alloys
  • Fundamental understanding of effects of thermal mechanical processing of titanium alloys and the impact on material behavior
  • Experience in data collection, data management, and data analysis methods.
  • Fundamental understanding of material and process modeling
  • Six Sigma Green Belt
