The Tissue Processing Specialist operates within a Controlled Work Area (CWA) and is responsible for advanced aseptic processing of human tissue and cell products, as well as overseeing decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of reusable equipment and supplies used in Production. This role provides technical expertise, mentorship, and quality oversight to ensure product integrity, compliance, and efficiency in processing.
The Specialist acts as a subject matter expert (SME), supporting continuous training and development of technicians, and provides critical input in tissue disposition, process improvements, and quality assurance. This position requires advanced knowledge of aseptic techniques, strong technical ability, and the capability to independently lead processing sessions from start to finish.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to aseptic technique and processing practices in alignment with applicable standards, operating procedures, and company policies.
- Interpret applicable product specifications and complete all assigned tasks according to established procedures and company expectations.
- Complete accurate and timely processing records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Participate in Lead and/or participate in warmup routines at designated times for the respective shift.
- Serve as a primary technical resource and subject matter expert in assigned processing area(s); act as technical consultant on product(s) within the process type overview.
- Provide training and ongoing coaching to new and existing employees; deliver performance feedback to management on trainee progress.
- Facilitate Operations “Time Out” quality checks and perform quality control (QC) checks on end-of-session product (as applicable), including QC tests and final seal verification.
- Completion of GPS requirements and applicable technical qualifications (e.g., L/R verification, Thickness Gauge).
- Provide input and guidance when determining tissue disposition (product release vs. discard).
- Promote a safe, positive, and productive work environment by modeling company values and adherence to policies.
- Work on a rotating schedule that may include company-observed holidays; overtime and call-in responsibilities may be required.
- Must consistently complete assigned schedule within shift and demonstrate ability to manage solo jobs.
- Must maintain a regular work schedule of at least 36 hours per week, with additional overtime or call-in responsibilities as determined by business needs.
- Adhere to and promote proper practices and techniques which are consistent with current operating procedures, training requirements, safety practices, and company policies.
- May perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year experience as a Tissue Processing Technician.
- Demonstrated understanding of aseptic technique, cleanroom standards, and regulated processing standards.
- Demonstrate completing job qualifications. Department qualifications include, and are not limited to:
- Intermediate - Traditional Packaging/Cleanse, Osteocel Cleanse/Package, AlloTrue
- Traditional - TradIP. AccuPac, Osteocel, Common Demand Grafts (cottons, Evans, cubes, TCWs - Evaluated by Master Techs or TQE of Departments)
- CS (Central Services):Decontamination, loading/unloading, canister creation, wrap, and dry.
- Skin/Demin:Signed off on at least 90% of available processes
- Must not be on PIP and/or final warning.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to communicate in English proficiently (speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension)
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or related field
- Certified Tissue Banking Specialist (CTBS) certification, Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or another certification approved by management
- Experience in performing aseptic techniques and in a medical or laboratory environment.
- Previous FDA and/or Tissue Banking experience
