Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a pathology support professional to perform gross examinations and tissue processing under an Anatomic Pathologist's supervision. You will label specimens, assist with frozen sections, and train residents in processing techniques.

The role emphasizes quality, safety and compliance in a busy lab environment, with emphasis on effective communication and data-driven QA reporting. A relevant lab science degree is required.

Qualifications

  • Requires degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science OR medical technology.
  • Must have training/experience in gross pathology lab processes and tissue handling.
  • Strong knowledge of quality, safety and compliance programs applied to lab work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform gross examinations, dissection and description of tissues under supervision.
  • Ensure proper labeling of specimens; troubleshoot discrepancies.
  • Assist with frozen sections and tissue triage as needed.
  • Educate residents and other lab staff in processing of tissues and post-mortem exams.
  • Collect and summarize quality assurance data for reporting.
