Job summary

Ochsner Health in New Orleans seeks a Lab Technician to perform gross examinations, dissection and description of tissues under supervision of an Anatomic Pathologist. The role requires an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a lab science and training, plus strong data entry, communication and safety skills.

You will support education of pathology residents and quality assurance activities while working in a regulated environment with exposure to chemicals and biohazards.

Qualifications

• Must have data entry and information retrieval skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Proficiency with Windows-based software and role-specific packages.
• Knowledge of quality, safety and compliance programs in a clinical lab.
• Strong interpersonal abilities and teamwork.
• Ability to handle high-volume specimen processing under stress.
• Work in a controlled environment with potential chemical/biohazard exposure.

Responsibilities

• Performs gross examinations, dissection and description of tissues under supervision.
• Ensures proper labeling of specimens and resolves discrepancies.
• Assists with frozen sections and tissue triage as needed.
• Transmits and educates staff and residents on processing of surgical tissues and post‑mortem exams.
• Collects and summarizes QA data for reporting.
• Maintains autopsy database and coordinates disposition with funeral homes.
• Participates in development and maintenance of pathology protocols.
• Other related duties as required.

Laboratory training through accredited clinical program or 3 months pathology/histology/cytology training
