Job summary

Ochsner LSU Health in Louisiana is seeking a Histology Technician to receive and process surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens for microscopic examination. The role involves assisting pathologists and residents in the gross dissection room and performing special procedures, including bone processing and special stains.

Required: high school diploma; 1 year of Histopathology lab experience or HT certification. Preferred: ASCP HT certification.

Responsibilities

• Orient tissue in paraffin embedding to ensure uniform sections.
• Prepare tissue/slides for special procedures and packaging for send outs.
• Assist in workload management and adjust schedules as needed.
• Maintain Positive control slides and QC documentation.
• Complete pathologist requests within 24 hours and report delays.
• Clean and maintain reagents, tissue processors, and stainers; document QC.
• Support section operations during special events or outages.
• Follow safety guidelines and comply with regulations.
• Perform special procedures including stains and undecalcified bone processing.
