Job summary

New England Donor Services seeks a Tissue Donation Coordinator who guides donor families through the donation process and coordinates tissue recoveries with hospital staff and partners. The role emphasizes compassion, accurate medical histories, and smooth logistics to support patients in need.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience; or an Associate's degree with 3+ years in medical field
• Working knowledge of medical terminology
• Excellent telephone communication skills
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, clinical databases, and EMRs
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Handle donor referral calls from hospital staff to obtain and evaluate medical information
• Advocate for donation with donor families and obtain informed consent
• Coordinate tissue recoveries with internal and external partners
• Provide exemplary customer service while communicating with hospital staff, clinical partners, funeral homes, and other stakeholders

Looking for meaningful work, great benefits, and a place to belong? As a Tissue Donation Coordinator, the work you do will help guide donor families through the tissue donation process that can lead to impacting countless individuals.

Tissue donations are pivotal in helping children who require heart valve transplants lead full and healthy lives, breast cancer survivors in need of mastectomy surgeries feel whole again, restoring sight to those who suffer from corneal blindness, and so many others.

What You'll Do:

• Handle incoming donor referral calls from hospital staff and clinical partners to obtain and evaluate medical information regarding potential tissue donor suitability
• Work empathetically and compassionately with potential donor families to advocate for donation, conduct history questionnaires, and obtain informed consent to donation
• Coordinate logistics of tissue recoveries with both internal and external partners and stakeholders
• Follow best practices and provide exemplary customer service while communicating with teammates, partners, and stakeholders including Hospital staff, Clinical partners, Funeral Homes, Medical Examiners, District Attorneys, and others.

What You'll Work:

• Three 12-hour shifts per week
• One 12-hour on-call shift every 2 weeks
• A variety of Day, Mid, and Night shifts
• Shifts you select in our collaborative self-scheduling model
• Shifts in person and remote in our fully hybrid staffing model
• Ability to work both remotely from a home office setting and onsite in Waltham, MA - remote opportunities are available once you have completed the orientation process (after several months) and you are completely independen t.
• During the orientation period all shifts will be on site in Waltham, MA.
• Shifts that support our 24-hour, 365-day a year mission including weekends and holidays

What You'll Bring:

• Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience; or, strong consideration will be given to candidates who have an Associate's degree, certification or license and 3+ years of relevant experience in medical field, health sciences, mental health or counseling with expertise in crisis intervention and/or grief counseling
• Working knowledge of medical terminology
• Excellent telephone communication skills
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, clinical databases, and Electronic Medical Records
• Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail
• Must be flexible and proactive, and have a positive attitude
• Ability to work both remotely from a home office setting and onsite in Waltham, MA - remote opportunities are available once you have completed the orientation process and you are completely independent. During the orientation period all shifts will be on site in Waltham, MA.
