Job summary

New England Donor Services in Vernon, CT is seeking a Tissue Recovery Specialist to join a professional team dedicated to saving and enhancing lives through tissue donation. You will work in a surgical setting, learning to aseptically remove tissues from deceased donors and develop technical skills under supervision.

The role requires on-call shifts (7 per 14 days) with nights and weekends, and periodic orientation/training at other sites.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or minimum 2 years professional experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to thrive in a complex, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills by multi-tasking and applying SOPs
  • Must be able to manage multiple systems and computer applications
  • Intermediate understanding of medical terminology
  • Ability to adapt to variable working conditions

Responsibilities

  • Aseptically remove tissues from deceased donors (bones, skin, veins, corneas, heart valves)
  • Work in a surgical setting and develop technical skills
  • Be on-call for 7 shifts over a 14-day period, including nights and weekends
  • Travel to training sites (e.g., Waltham, MA) as required
  • Drive extensively across New England in NEDS vehicles

Job Description

You have the opportunity to advance your healthcare career at New England Donor Services by joining a dynamic, professional team whose mission is to save and enhance lives through tissue donation.

As a Tissue Recovery Specialist you will become a member of a professional team working in a surgical setting where you will be trained to aseptically remove bones, skin, veins, corneas, heart-for-valves and additional tissues from deceased donors, while developing your technical skills in ways you never imagined possible.

Schedule:

As a full-time employee you will be on-call for 7 shifts (2 shifts are 12 hours (on-call) and 5 shifts are 24 hours (on-call)) within a 14 day period. Shifts start at 10:00am or 10:00pm. The work schedule is varied and includes overnights, some holidays and every other weekend. Additional mandatory training and meetings required.

Orientation:

During the first few weeks, travel to the Waltham, MA site will be required for orientation and training purposes. Approximately 3 days a week for the first 3-4 weeks will be required.

Travel:

This position is based in Vernon, CT. However, you will travel throughout New England in NEDS vehicles. Must be comfortable with long periods of driving.
