Job description

Position Summary

The ANR County Extension Educator position is an exempt professional staff role within UGA Cooperative Extension responsible for the delivery of the Agriculture and Natural Resources educational programming in Tift County. This position will help with livestock activities. A high level of independent judgment is expected to effectively carry out the essential duties of the job and the incumbent is expected to manage the ANR education delivery by developing techniques and procedures as appropriate. This role works cooperatively with all Extension faculty and staff where applicable and works under the guidance and supervision of the County Extension Coordinator and the District Extension Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to speak to/teach large groups of adults and children
  • Ability to organize and carry out activities and programming
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county, district, and state staff, local government employees, and clientele
  • Show high standards of professionalism in personal contacts, appearance, and work habits
  • Express thoughts clearly and concisely through written and verbal communication
  • Applicant will work with the 4-H youth program
Responsibilities
  • Provides educational programming related to Agriculture & Natural Resources in Tift County. This includes providing educational opportunities in production corn, wheat, and other grains by utilizing multiple teaching methods.
  • Utilizes the expertise of and works closely with advisory groups, community leaders, public officials, and representatives of intended audiences to analyze data, identify needs, and assist in developing educational programs for corn, wheat, and other grains.
  • Develops a plan of work that is equitable in meeting the needs of the county.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating ANR educational programming, including reserving venues, creating promotional materials, registering participants, copying handouts and preparing materials for class participants, and assisting with program set-up and break-down.
  • Assist with client services by answering homeowner and aquatic questions.
  • Assist other agents as needed.
  • Use county websites and internet media to increase program outreach.
  • Assist 4-H livestock members with preparation for competitive events, such as livestock shows, judging teams, quiz bowl, etc.
  • Transport or arrange for transportation of 4-H'ers to various district and state livestock events, and if assigned, provide leadership for youth while attending these events.
  • Assist with planning local livestock projects, such as livestock shows and judging teams.
  • Some degree of physical activity to conduct programs (e.g. handling animals, demonstration materials, and audio‑video equipment).
  • Standing and/or sitting for various lengths of time. Withstand various seasonal weather conditions for outside activities.
  • Travel to various 4-H livestock events and competitions within the state and possibly nationally.
  • Occasionally work extended hours (past eight‑hour workday and forty‑hour workweek), including some nights and weekends.
  • Coordinate reporting with other county staff members and provide reports to appropriate clientele and public officials through media, personal contacts, and or group meetings to provide information on the progress of programs.
  • Submit accurate, complete reports in Georgia Counts and to District Office as necessary and provide supplemental documentation useful in evaluating and improving.
Physical Demands

Some degree of physical activity to conduct programs (e.g. handling animals, demonstration materials, and audio‑video equipment). Some standing and/or sitting for various lengths of time. Withstand various seasonal weather conditions for outside activities. Travel to various events and competitions within the state and possibly nationally. Occasionally work extended hours (past eight‑hour workday and forty‑hour workweek), including some nights and weekends. Driving.
