Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) seeks an IT Engineer with strong Linux administration and Windows competency to deliver Tier 2 support for a large Federal Intelligence Agency. The role focuses on RHEL-based systems, secure Linux operations, and hybrid environments, with duties spanning incident resolution, system optimization, and end-user support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5+ years of systems administration experience with Tier 2 support.
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance and DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
  • Security+ CE or equivalent stated as preferred.
  • Familiarity with ITIL v3 or higher and ITSM tools like ServiceNow.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 2 incident resolution in a mixed Windows/Linux environment.
  • Administer Linux systems (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) including users and permissions.
  • Support Windows workstations/servers (AD, DNS, DHCP, DFS) as needed.
  • Troubleshoot application crashes and performance issues; ensure operational continuity.
  • Deliver remote and on-site end-user desktop support; document incidents.

Job description

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking a highly skilled IT Engineer with strong experience in Linux system administration and strong competency in Microsoft Enterprise Systems to provide Tier 2 support for a large Federal Intelligence Agency. This role is part of a high-performing team that supports mission-critical infrastructure across multiple security enclaves and hybrid environments, with a primary focus on RHEL-based systems and secure Linux operations. As a Tier 2 engineer, you will be responsible for advanced troubleshooting, system optimization and user support for Linux platforms while also supporting Windows systems as needed to ensure optimal performance and operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Tier 2 support for incident resolution and user issues in a mixed Windows/Linux enterprise environment.
  • Perform Linux system administration (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu), including user management, permissions, and basic performance diagnostics.
  • Support Windows workstations and servers 9Windows 10, Server 2012/2016) as required, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and DFS.
  • Troubleshoot application crashes, system performance issues, and connectivity problems.
  • Deliver remote and on-site end-user desktop support, resolving escalated technical issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Respond to service desk escalations using tools like ServiceNow or NETS; provide documentation and incident reporting.
  • Collaborate with external teams to analyze and improve end-user experience.
  • Participate in incident triage and real-time response efforts.
  • Engage in special projects and contribute to long-term solutions for recurring system issues.
  • Maintain compliance with DoD security standards, including DoD 8570 IA certification requirements.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work/military experience).
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in systems administration, with demonstrated Tier 2 support capabilities.
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE, SSCP, or CCNA-Security).
  • Security+ CE preferred.
  • Must obtain the appropriate Computing Environment (CE) training within six (6) months of hire.
Required Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • Linux administration (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu)
  • Windows operating systems (Windows 10, Server 2012/2016)
  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, LDAP
  • Troubleshooting Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word), Java, and web browsers
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of ITIL v3 or higher
