Job description

Join one of the longest established dedicated secondaries franchises in private equity, investing out of New York since the early days of the asset class. The firm has bought LP interests, run GP led transactions and priced complex structured deals across multiple full cycles, which means the team has underwritten through dislocation rather than only through expansion. It sits inside a global asset management parent, so the platform carries institutional infrastructure, distribution and balance sheet credibility that an independent boutique of comparable deal count could not fund on its own. Secondaries volume continues to take share as sponsors hold assets longer and LPs manage liquidity actively, and this seat is being added because deal flow has grown, not because someone left.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Associate to sit at the centre of live transactions rather than at the edge of them. You will underwrite portfolios of underlying companies, build the pricing that goes in front of the investment committee, and see your work carried through to a bid that either wins or does not. The team is deliberately lean, which means an Associate here is in the deal room, on the diligence calls and in front of the seller advisers early, not two layers back from the decision. Because the firm does not run a rigid conveyor belt of juniors, the work you get is scoped to what you can actually carry from the first month.

The Book
  • Private equity secondaries across LP portfolio purchases, GP led continuation vehicles, single asset deals and structured or preferred solutions.
  • Diversified exposure across buyout and growth strategies, primarily North America and Europe, spanning many underlying sponsors and several hundred underlying companies.
  • Deal sizes ranging from small bilateral situations to large intermediated processes, with pricing discipline rather than volume targets driving what gets bid.
  • Long standing GP relationships that produce proprietary and lightly shopped looks alongside broadly marketed auctions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite portfolios bottom up, building company level views on the assets that actually drive value rather than applying a blanket discount to a NAV schedule.
  • Build and maintain the pricing models behind live bids, including cash flow projections, scenario and downside cases, and sensitivity around exit timing and leverage.
  • Run diligence on sponsors and underlying assets, including fund document review, track record analysis and structural terms.
  • Prepare investment committee materials with a clear recommendation, a defined downside and an explicit view on what would make the deal wrong.
  • Support GP led and continuation vehicle processes, where structuring and alignment questions matter as much as the price.
  • Work directly with senior members of the team, advisers and sponsor contacts, with real client facing exposure early rather than after three years.
What We Are Looking For
  • 0 to 3 years of experience. Investment banking is a strong and welcome background, and secondaries experience is not required.
  • Backgrounds that succeed here include investment banking, private equity, Big 4 valuation, transaction services or audit with a fund or sponsor client base, insurance company private markets teams and fund investor services at the analyst level.
  • Genuine modelling ability. The pricing work is the job, and it is judged on the assumptions you can defend rather than on the formatting of the output.
  • Comfort with volume and breadth. A single portfolio can carry dozens of underlying funds and hundreds of companies, and the skill is knowing which ten names decide the answer.
  • Written and verbal clarity, because investment committee memos are read closely and questioned directly.
  • Work authorisation in the United States is required. This search does not offer visa sponsorship, and that is stated up front so it is not discovered late in the process.
Process and Timing
  • Multi stage process. Screen with the team, a modelling and case exercise, a panel with senior investment professionals, then a final conversation with leadership.
  • The case exercise carries the most weight. Be ready to talk through how you would price a portfolio and what would change your answer.
  • Moving now, with flexibility for notice periods and bonus cycles.
Why Join?
  • A dedicated secondaries franchise with decades of history rather than a recently launched sleeve inside a generalist manager. Ask about how long the senior team has worked together, because in this market that answer is the difference between a stable seat and a rebuild.
  • Competitive base with a performance bonus benchmarked to New York private equity, and a compensation structure that reflects a platform buying assets rather than one defending fees.
  • Real deal attribution. On a team this size the work you did on a transaction is known, which is what makes the case for promotion straightforward when it comes.
  • Exposure across the full secondaries toolkit, LP deals, GP leds, continuation funds and structured solutions, rather than a single narrow product. For someone 0 to 3 years in, that breadth is the strongest training available in this part of the market.
  • Institutional backing from a global parent, which means legal, compliance, fundraising and operational infrastructure are already built and you spend your time underwriting.
  • On site in New York. Stated plainly because the team works in person and there is no point discovering that at offer stage.
