Job summary

The Salvation Army thrift store in Newton, IA seeks a store associate to maintain daily operations, stock shelves, and assist customers in a manner consistent with our mission. You will help price and process merchandise, operate the POS system, and keep the store clean and organized.

High school diploma or GED is preferred; retail or cash-handling experience is a plus. Flexibility, basic computer skills, and good English communication are important for this role.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED completed; retail experience preferred but not required.
• Retail and/or cash register experience is a plus but not mandatory.
• Ability to be flexible and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use payroll/timekeeping in a web-based system.
• Proficient reading/writing in English; good customer communication skills.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities are important.

Responsibilities

• Make sure shelves and clothing racks are full and organized to promote sales.
• Assist management with pricing items for sale.
• Process merchandise efficiently following established standards.
• Stock racks, shelves, and surfaces with merchandise daily.
• Learn and train on the processing system including cash register.
• Maintain a clean store environment including shelves and counters.
• Wrap and bag merchandise for customers when needed.
• Provide courteous customer service in line with The Salvation Army mission.
• All other duties as assigned.
