Illumio is seeking a Security Research Intern to join the Threat Research Team at our Sunnyvale, CA headquarters. You will work with experienced researchers to study real-world cyber threats, analyze attacker behaviors, and translate findings into actionable security insights and detection capabilities.

The role blends threat research, intelligence, telemetry, and data analysis, with opportunities to apply ML techniques and contribute to new detection ideas.

Qualifications

• Pursuing full-time bachelor’s or master’s degree in CS/cybersecurity/data science with winter 2027/ spring 2028 graduation.
• Strong interest in cybersecurity, threat intelligence, or ML.
• Exposure to threat intel concepts (IOCs, campaigns, malware, vulnerabilities) or MITRE ATT&CK.
• Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS).
• Ability to research technical topics and clearly communicate findings.

Responsabilités

• Research emerging threats, attacker campaigns, and evolving adversary techniques.
• Analyze threat intelligence including malicious IPs, domains, and attacker infrastructure.
• Investigate network activity related to C2 and suspicious communications.
• Analyze security and network telemetry to distinguish normal vs. anomalous activity.
• Explore ML and statistical techniques for security use cases like anomaly detection and clustering.
• Collaborate with threat researchers, data scientists, engineers, and product teams to share findings.
• Present research learnings at internship end.
