Job summary

South Shore Health in Weymouth, MA seeks a Physician Assistant to support the Thoracic Surgery team. The PA will evaluate, treat, and manage patients with surgical and thoracic conditions under the supervision of the Thoracic Surgery Attending and APC leadership.

The role involves clinic, floor, and operating room duties as a physician extender. Responsibilities include comprehensive history taking, preoperative preparation, postoperative care, and assisting in surgeries.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
• Prefer two or more years of practice.
• PA license required.

Responsibilities

• Clinic: Obtain comprehensive histories from patients and present all new patients to the appropriate attending physician.
• Preoperative evaluation: oversee preop workups, order/obtain radiology and laboratory studies, review results, discuss concerns with attending physicians, complete preoperative evaluation.
• Clinic phone duties: take clinic calls and document in medical record.
• Perform physical examinations, prescribe medications, and perform procedures (dressing changes, wound care, venipuncture, arterial blood gases, thoracentesis, jejunostomy tube changes, chest tube procedures, sutures).
• Postoperative floor care: rounding, care plans, orders, discharge planning, dictation of discharge summaries, VNA care plans.
• Operating room: first or second assist in surgeries; write postoperative orders.
• Referrals/consultations when needed by attending physician.
