Job summary

Albany Medical Center seeks a Physician Assistant to join our Thoracic Surgery team, supporting inpatient care across the ICU and hospital services. This full‑time role offers exposure to high‑acuity thoracic procedures and multidisciplinary patient management.

The PA will perform bedside procedures, assist in thoracic operations (including VATS), lead rounds, educate patients, and coordinate postoperative care while upholding safety and infection control standards.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited PA program with NCCPA certification.
• Active state PA license and prescriptive authority.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a surgical or hospital-based acute care setting (CT Surgery experience strongly preferred).
• Skilled in ICU management and invasive bedside procedures.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical-surgical care.
• Excellent clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for thoracic patients from assessment through surgery and postoperative ICU care.
• Assist in diagnosis and surgical management of thoracic diseases including lung cancer and esophageal pathology.
• Perform or assist in thoracic procedures such as thoracotomy and VATS.
• Manage critically ill postoperative ICU patients and those requiring advanced life support.
• Conduct preoperative evaluations and informed patient consent.
• Coordinate postoperative care and monitor for complications.
• Educate patients and families about procedures and recovery.
• Participate in daily ICU rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Maintain infection control and safe clinical environment.
