Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a skilled Physician Assistant to join our Thoracic Surgery team, with duties across inpatient care and multidisciplinary coordination in a high-acuity surgical setting.

The PA will provide comprehensive thoracic and ICU care, assist in tumor and thoracic procedures, participate in daily rounds and MDT meetings, and educate patients and families. We offer competitive salary, benefits, CME support, and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited PA program with current NCCPA certification.
• Active state PA license and prescriptive authority.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a surgical or hospital-based acute care setting (CT Surgery experience strongly preferred).
• Skilled in ICU management and invasive bedside procedures.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical-surgical care.
• Excellent clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for thoracic patients from initial assessment through surgery and postoperative critical care.
• Assist in the diagnosis and surgical management of thoracic diseases including lung cancer and mediastinal masses.
• Perform thoracic procedures such as thoracotomy, VATS, and other minimally invasive techniques.
• Manage ICU patients including postoperative care and life support within ICU protocols.
• Conduct preoperative evaluations and risk assessments and participate in MDT meetings.
• Monitor ventilated patients, hemodynamics, and sedation; perform bedside procedures as needed.
• Coordinate postoperative care and educate patients and families about recovery and discharge.
• Uphold infection control and safety standards across departments.
