Job summary

Albany Medical Center in New York seeks a skilled Physician Assistant to join our Thoracic Surgery team, with inpatient care and coordination responsibilities. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to work in a high-acuity surgical setting while contributing to broader hospital-based medical care.

This position supports thoracic surgery and ICU services, with clinical leadership responsibilities and a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited PA program with NCCPA certification.
• Active NY state PA license and prescriptive authority.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a surgical or hospital-based acute care setting (CT Surgery experience strongly preferred).
• Skilled in ICU management and invasive bedside procedures.
• Excellent clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care for thoracic surgery patients.
• Assist in diagnosis and surgical management of thoracic diseases including cancer and esophageal pathology.
• Perform or assist in thoracic procedures such as thoracotomy and VATS.
• Manage ICU patients with ventilation, hemodynamic instability, or complex post-op care.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in daily ICU rounds and MDT meetings.
• Educate patients and families on procedures, recovery, and discharge planning.
