Job summary

UT Austin is seeking an Thoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to deliver comprehensive perioperative and longitudinal care for adult thoracic surgery patients across settings. You will work with thoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensivists, and care teams to optimize safety, quality, and patient experience.

The role emphasizes advanced surgical assisting, perioperative management, outpatient care, and ongoing professional development within a Texas-licensed APP framework.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
• Licensed Advanced Practice PA with Prescriptive Authority.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant clinical experience in surgery.
• National certification (NCCPA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced surgical first assisting support during thoracic procedures.
• Perform comprehensive perioperative assessment and postoperative care.
• Conduct pre-operative risk assessments and surgical readiness evaluations.
• Manage daily inpatient rounds including ICU and step-down units.
• Coordinate discharge planning and follow-up care plans.
• Prescribe medications per scope and protocols and ensure handoffs are clear.
• Document and communicate clinical information in the EMR.
