Job summary

NYU Langone Health is seeking a Third Cook/Special Order Cook for our busy hospital kitchen. You will prepare a variety of items, including breakfast and special orders, following established recipes and service standards.

The role requires at least one year of cooking experience in a high-volume health care setting, reading/writing English, and knowledge of HACCP. Culinary training is preferred, and teamwork is essential to maintain quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of one year cooking experience in high-volume health care or large food service.
• Must read, write and speak English.
• Knowledge of portion control, forecasting and HACCP.
• Ability to follow recipes and adjust yields.
• Knowledge of food presentation and service.

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Third Cook/Special Order Cook. In this role, the successful candidate performs work of moderate difficulty in the preparation of various menu items which involves a variety of cooking operations as instructed by immediate supervisor or designee.

Job Responsibilities

• Prepares breakfast items, vegetables, and any other cooked-food items as designated.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
• Attends meetings and in‑services for food production employees.
• Follows established departmental sanitation standards.
• Utilizes all types of kitchen equipment to prepare food.
• Maintains open communication and good relationships with others.
• Plans work assignments accordingly and utilizes time effectively.
• Provides assistance and contributes new ideas to the department.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one year of cooking experience as Cook’s Helper in a high‑volume health care institution or commercial establishment with large‑volume food service. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must be knowledgeable in portion control, forecasting procedures and ingredients. Must be able to follow recipes and expand or reduce recipes to desired yields. Must be knowledgeable of HACCP and follow this in all operations. Must know food presentation and service. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

Culinary degree or certificate.

Salary Information

Salary range: $27.75–$27.75 per hour. Prices may vary based on experience, specialty, education and hospital needs. This range does not include bonuses or other compensation.
