Job summary

MKS Instruments in Irvine, CA is seeking a Thin Film Engineer to partner with Thin Film Coating to design, develop, manufacture, and test optical surface treatments. You will report to the Director of Thin Film Engineering and drive improvement across coating processes.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, process optimization, and collaboration across engineering teams. A strong background in thin film manufacturing and proficiency in Excel/PowerPoint are essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in a thin film manufacturing environment.
• Proactive troubleshooting and problem solving.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Develop optical surface treatments and processes for ion beam sputtering, ion assist and electron beam coating, surface etching and photolithography.
• Characterize equipment and processes to reduce downtime.
• Identify root causes of defects and implement corrective actions.
• Support the team with process documentation and work instructions.
• Assist coating process teams with training technicians and maintenance staff.
