Shield AI is seeking a Thermal Engineer to lead the design and integration of aircraft avionics thermal management systems for high‑power, high‑voltage applications. You will build analytical and CFD models, validate results, and ensure compliance with aerospace requirements.

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, drive risk assessments, and present findings to stakeholders in a fast‑paced startup environment, with comfort in learning new tools and processes.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
• Internship or engineering club experience in avionics or electronics thermal engineering.
• Knowledge of heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
• Familiarity with thermal analysis and CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS Icepak, FloEFD, STAR-CCM+).
• Experience with CAD tools such as NX, SolidWorks, or similar.
• Demonstrated first-principles reasoning in engineering problems.

Responsibilities

• Own thermal analysis and design efforts for unmanned aerial vehicle avionics including custom power electronics.
• Develop and validate models for heat transfer and CFD using hand calculations and tools.
• Drive test planning, instrumentation, and data analysis to correlate models with experiments.
• Communicate technical findings through briefings, reviews, and reports.
• Influence design direction and select components related to thermal management.
