Shield AI is seeking a Senior Staff Thermal Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and integration of avionics thermal management for unmanned aircraft. You will drive first-principles solutions, mentor peers, and provide robust thermal solutions meeting aerospace requirements.

Responsibilities include performing CFD analyses, developing models, guiding trade studies, and communicating results to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years in avionics or electronics thermal engineering.
• Expertise in heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
• Experience with active and passive cooling integration.
• Experience with first-principles reasoning and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Own thermal analysis and design efforts for UAV avionics including custom power electronics.
• Develop and validate models for heat transfer and fluid flow using hand calculations and CFD tools.
• Provide technical leadership in trade studies and system architecture decisions.
• Lead cross-functional teams on power electronics and environmental enclosures.
• Drive test planning, instrumentation, and data analysis to validate models.
• Mentor junior engineers and guide cross-disciplinary teams.
• Communicate findings through executive briefings and reports.
• Identify risks and influence design directions.
