Job summary

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector seeks a Thermal Mechanical Engineer – Level 2 or 3 to join our team in Dulles, VA. This 100% onsite role supports an experienced mechanical engineering group performing thermal analysis on spacecraft systems or subsystems.

The position offers a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off and opportunities to work on innovative thermal solutions for spaceflight hardware. Collaboration with a skilled team and growth into Level 3 responsibilities are available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 2 years of professional experience or Master’s degree with 0 years.
• Experience with thermal engineering tasks involving analysis, design, and/or testing of structures.
• Experience with Thermal Desktop, SINDA, or equivalent spacecraft thermal analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform thermal analysis, design, or test of moderately complex materials, structural components, and systems of company products.
• Analyze requirements for materials, components, or systems.
• Select analytical data from previous products and determine the technical principles involved.
• Mathematically define problems and compute engineering characteristics per specifications and design needs.
• Release results as technical documents after review by senior team members.
• Develop innovative solutions and elaborate on design concepts.
• Evaluate completed designs with supervisor and other technical groups and modify as needed.
• Develop, coordinate, and conduct test programs to evaluate design work.
