Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a Senior Thermal Analysis Engineer to lead the system-level thermal analysis for the Thermal Subsystem of the Lunar Permanence program. You will own the delivery of thermal analyses for the spacecraft, integrating submodels from multiple analysts and ensuring model consistency across detailed and simplified representations.

You will build and review thermal models and drive design recommendations across all mission phases.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 10 years of relevant Thermal Analysis experience using Thermal Desktop/Sinda.
  • Advanced knowledge of first-principle heat transfer and its application to spaceflight systems.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the approach and quality of system-level thermal analysis for the Thermal Subsystem.
  • Own the delivery of thermal analysis of the spacecraft system and interface with other vehicles.
  • Lead and mentor early-career analysis engineers.

To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Drive the approach and quality of the system-level thermal analysis for the Thermal SubsystemOwn the delivery of thermal analysis of the spacecraft system including when interfacing with other vehiclesDevelop and maintain approaches and processes for consistent modeling standards and system model integrationSupport the thermal design and architecture of the vehicle in coordination with Thermal Systems Engineers, Thermal design scope owners, and vehicle subsystem counterpartsBuild thermal models in Thermal Desktop/Sinda based on inputs from external teamsIntegrate submodels from multiple contributing thermal analysts into a detailed system modelUnderstand driving thermal requirements and environments and their relationship across the vehicle and thermal subsystemManage complete analysis case set matrix as well as identifying driving/bounding cases for minimum viable analysis case setsDevelop logic blocks to model components of the thermal control architecturePredict and review spacecraft component temperatures and heater power across all mission phases and drive design recommendationsIdentify non-compliances to thermal requirements and drive them to resolutionPerform trade studies and optimizations of thermal design solutions and collaborate with external teams on the trade offsDocument thermal analysis results and present at internal review boards and program gated reviewsEnforce model version control process to ensure proper review and consistent model use for generating thermal predictionsDevelop and evaluate the quality of simplified system models to perform analysis trade studies requiring quick turnaround times. Ensure consistency between detailed and simplified modelsUnderstand subsystem scope responsibility and advocate against scope creepLead and mentor early-career analysis engineersMinimum QualificationsMinimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering10 years of relevant Thermal Analysis experience using Thermal Desktop/SindaAdvanced knowledge of first-principle heat transfer and its application to spaceflight systemsIn-depth knowledge of spacecraft thermal hardware, including their performance characteristics and limitationsExpert-level proficiency in thermal analysis using Thermal Desktop and Sinda/FluintExperience in thermal system requirement verification via analysis productsAbility to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Preferred QualificationsM.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering12 years of relevant Thermal Analysis experienceStrong understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, etc and semi-passive devices like sensors and heatersFamiliar with extreme hot/cold temperature systemsFamiliar with thermal environments of lunar missionsExperience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in applicationProven experience in aerospace Thermal system design and analysis from concept through delivery phasesBase Pay Range for:CA applicants is $156,802.00 - $219,522.45CO applicants is $144,179.00 - $201,849.90WA applicants is $156,802.00 - $219,522.45Other site ranges may differCulture StatementDon’t meet all desired requirements?
