Job summary

QuantumScape Battery, Inc. is seeking a Thermal/Mechanical Engineer to own the physical design of rack-mount battery system enclosures.

You’ll translate the needs of solid-state cells and power electronics into manufacturable shelf concepts, ensuring safe operation and serviceability in a data-center-like environment. You will collaborate with battery systems engineers, run CFD analyses, and lead DFM engagement with contract manufacturers, while ensuring compliance with thermal and mechanical

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing thermal-mechanical enclosures for rack-mount power, compute, or telecom equipment.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or higher; 9+ years experience or higher degrees with reduced experience.
• CFD thermal simulation experience with Ansys Icepak, FloTHERM, or 6SigmaET is required.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or Creo for detailed mechanical design.
• Sheet metal design for volume manufacturing (bend radii, punching, spotting).
• Track record of designs through contract manufacturing and thermal validation.

Responsibilities

• Design the complete mechanical enclosure (1OU or 2OU shelf) in SolidWorks or Creo.
• Solve core thermal challenges with airflow paths, isolation zones, and heat spreaders.
• Run CFD simulations to optimize airflow under worst-case conditions.
• Collaborate on cell pack mounting and mechanical isolation inside the enclosure.
• Perform vibration and shock analysis for shipping per ISTA 3-series or GR-63-CORE.
