Siemens Energy is seeking a Thermal Fluid Engineer to shape the performance of gas turbines through advanced fluid dynamics and heat transfer analysis. You will design cooling air and secondary air systems, collaborate with a global engineering team, and drive improvements across the fleet.

The role emphasizes model development, simulation, and validation against empirical data, with involvement in design and reliability improvements for modern turbomachinery.

Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical or Aerospace engineering; Masters or PhD preferred.
  • 5–8+ years experience in design, development, or operation of turbomachinery.
  • Core engineering principles for fluid mechanics and/or heat transfer.
  • Numerical simulation and modeling.
  • Data analysis and complex technical analysis.
  • Risk assessment (FMEA).
  • General programming languages.
  • Intercultural collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • 60% Thermal-fluid system modeling and simulation: develop and maintain models for cooling air supply for hot gas-path components.
  • Simulate transient heating and thermal expansion to determine optimal assembly gaps and clearances.
  • Use in-house and commercial software to perform CFD/heat-transfer analyses.
  • Analyze simulation results and validate models against data.
  • 40% Design, analysis and improvement: contribute to conceptual and detailed design of gas turbines, focusing on secondary air system and clearance design.
  • Evaluate operating data, prototypes, and fleet feedback to improve design reliability.
  • Participate in risk assessments (FMEA) for new and modified designs.
  • Collaborate with project management, component engineering, and manufacturing for design feasibility and integration.
