Job summary

Siemens Energy in Orlando, FL, is seeking a Thermal Fluid Engineer to apply fluid dynamics and heat transfer to simulate internal cooling air systems of large gas turbines and the turbine's overall thermal behavior. You’ll collaborate with a global engineering team on both new product development and service projects.

Your role involves close collaboration with project managers, component engineers, and manufacturing/service teams to drive design improvements and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
• 0-2+ years in gas turbines or cooling air systems desirable; senior level for more experience possible.
• Practical knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and general mechanical or process engineering.
• Ability to analyze complex technical topics and extract design implications.
• Experience with computational simulation tools and CFD software is a plus; familiarity with FMEA is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Design Secondary Air Systems & clearance components.
• Develop models describing cooling air supply to hot gas-path components and evaluate results.
• Simulate transient heating and expansion to determine optimal gaps between rotating and stationary components.
• Analyze model results and derive design-relevant conclusions.
• Contribute to the conceptual design for gas turbines and evaluate data from prototypes and fleet to support improvements.

As aThermal Fluid Engineer you will apply your expertise in fluid dynamics and heat transfer to simulate and analyze the internal cooling air systems of large gas turbines, as well as the overall thermal behavior of the engine. You’ll be part of a global engineering team, contributing to both new product development and service-related projects!

Your role will involve close collaboration with project managers, component engineers, and colleagues from manufacturing and service departments.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Secondary Air Systems & Clearance Design
• Use in-house and commercial simulation tools to:
• Develop models that describe the cooling air supply to hot gas-path components in gas turbines and evaluate the results.
• Simulate transient heating and expansion of the entire turbine to determine optimal assembly gaps between rotating and stationary components.
• Analyze model results and derive design-relevant conclusions.
• Contributing to the conceptual design for gas turbines and evaluate operational data and findings from prototypes and the current fleet to support design improvements and reliability.

What You Bring

• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field is required; a Master's degree or Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field is a plus.
• 0-2 or more years of relevant experience in gas turbines or cooling air systems is desirable; Candidates with more direct experience may be eligible for a more senior level position.
• Practical knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and general mechanical or process engineering is preferred.
• Proven ability to analyze complex technical topics.
• Experience with computational simulation tools, programming languages, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software is a plus.
• Familiarity with risk assessment methods, such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), is a plus.
