Job summary

PACCAR Technical Center seeks a Thermal and CFD Engineer for aftertreatment, exhaust, and underbody thermal management to drive innovation in heavy‑duty truck development. You will partner with Kenworth and Peterbilt engineering teams to predict design viability and translate findings into actionable recommendations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; MS/PhD preferred.
• 5+ years engineering experience in CFD & Thermal Analysis.
• Automotive/exhaust/aftertreatment cooling or related experience.
• Proficient in STAR-CCM+, Fluent, TAITherm.
• Experience with CAD tools: Creo/SolidWorks/CATIA or similar.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and reporting skills.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Perform 3D thermal and CFD analyses for exhaust and aftertreatment systems.
• Predict heat loss, temperature distribution, and pressure drops under various load cases.
• Evaluate DEF system thermal behavior, hoses, tanks, and filling CFD needs.
• Develop design recommendations on insulation, heat shields, clearances, routing, protection.
• Support DFMEA inputs and concept-phase architecture studies.
