HX5, LLC seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer/Thermal Analyst to support NASA Glenn Research Center in Brook Park, Ohio. The role focuses on developing thermal models for essential components in electric propulsion research, including motors, converters, and batteries, to optimize size, weight, and thermal performance.
You will build and refine models, conduct thermal tests in a lab, and analyze data to guide system-level thermal design.
HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast‑growing veteran and woman‑owned company with locations nationwide.
HX5 is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer/Thermal Analyst to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
A Thermal Analyst is needed to support development activities for a small aircraft serving as a flexible flight research platform for emerging electric, mechanical, thermal, and acoustic technologies relevant to next‑generation eVTOL systems. The platform is intended to generate real‑world flight data across a variety of propulsion and system‑integration configurations, including advanced motors, converters, batteries, and associated thermal subsystems. This work builds on NASA’s prior electric and hybrid‑electric research efforts and supports ongoing activities within the Vehicle System Powertrain and Motor Systems team.
The selected engineer will work with NASA technical leads and engineers to develop a comprehensive thermal model of critical heat‑generating components such as motors and power converters. This model will guide the development of optimized thermal solutions aimed at reducing system size and weight while achieving reliable thermal performance. The position also contributes to broader powertrain integration and system‑level thermal design and validation efforts.
Responsibilities include building and refining component‑ and system‑level thermal models, designing and executing thermal tests, analyzing resulting data, and translating findings into clear, actionable insights for multidisciplinary engineering teams. The analyst will support the development of thermal management strategies that enable improved performance and operational efficiency for advanced electric propulsion configurations.
