Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (OTS) seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Solid Rocket Motor Engineering Team. You will design, analyze and integrate mechanical components for solid rocket motor systems, creating CAD models, drawings, and specifications for motor cases, nozzles, insulation, joints, and interfaces.

Remote option available; on-site at Huntsville, AL, Niceville, FL, or Hampton, AR.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience required.
• Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Performs detailed thermal analysis of solid rocket motor components.
• Sizes internal insulation, external thermal protection systems, and structural insulators.
• Validates models with test data; develops predictive ablation/erosion models.
• Defines sub-scale tests for material properties of insulators/ablators.
• Evaluates ablative materials and thermal protection system solutions for solid rocket motors.
• Creates reports and presentations documenting analyses.
• Presents findings to peers and customers in design reviews.
