Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, provide respiratory care designed to stabilize, prevent, or remedy patient respiratory problems according to established procedures specific to age and physician orders.
- Arrange and operate a variety of oxygen and other therapeutic gas equipment to safely administer prescribed doses of medical gases and aerosolized drugs.
- Check equipment regularly for proper functioning and record data obtained during therapy and diagnostic testing in patient charts.
- Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases (ABGs) to physicians and nurses.
- Participate in the adult ventilator weaning protocol and MDI protocol.
- Engage in excellence and relationship‑based care.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved A.M.A. school for Respiratory Therapy.
- Certified Respiratory Therapist and licensed by the New Jersey State Board of Respiratory Care.
- Analytical ability to resolve problems requiring basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
- Ability to explain clinical, technical, and diagnostic procedures to patients and families, comfort patients and families, enforce policies and regulations in difficult situations, and perform other duties requiring strong communication skills.
- Provide direct patient care to neonates, pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult, and geriatric patients.
