The Arizona State Hospital (ASH) provides inpatient psychiatric care to persons with serious mental illness who need long-term behavioral health care. ASH promotes hope and wellness for our patients and creates opportunities to participate in planning, delivering and evaluating services that assist with recovery. Treatment is individualized with goals that focus on education about an illness, instilling hope, and improving one's overall quality of life.

The Arizona State Hospital has a wide range of positions available, from direct care staff, nurses, and behavioral health technicians to social workers, rehabilitation specialists, and security personnel. The hospital offers 12‑hour shifts for direct care staff and flexible schedules for non‑direct care staff. Job Summary

Provides individual and group therapy to patients in a strength‑based, recovery‑oriented environment, utilizing best practices while ensuring all documentation is timely and meets agency and regulatory requirements. Serves as a consultant to treatment teams for identified patients.

Job Duties
  • Provides direct individual therapy and group therapy to identified patients and ensures proper documentation is completed timely and submitted according to agency and licensing standards.
  • Assists in on‑unit programming, training and development.
  • Communicates in a timely manner and attends all necessary meetings and conferences to facilitate interdisciplinary communication and effective treatment and discharge.
  • Meets with treatment teams and provides consultation, contributing to patient treatment plans.
  • Other duties as assigned (typically 5%–10%).

Knowledge Of
  • Psychotherapeutic practices and mental health principles.
  • Interpersonal and recovery principles.
  • Behavior management and an understanding of mental health assessments and psychiatric diagnoses derived from the DSM‑5.
  • Rules and expectations of internal and external auditing bodies.
  • Behavioral health treatment programs and protocols.
  • Recovery‑oriented and culturally competent treatment interventions for a wide variety of psychiatric disorders for a diverse population.
  • Performance Management, Continuous Quality Improvement and Lean methodologies.

  • Various therapies for the seriously mentally ill.

Selective Preference(s)

Preferred candidate will have 4 years of inpatient psychiatric experience in developing treatment plans, experience applying and utilizing a variety of psycho‑therapeutic strategies, and possess an independent license through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (LPC, LIAC, LCSW).

Pre‑Employment Requirements

Candidate must possess a Master's Degree in a behavioral health related field and a current Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (AZBBHE) associate license, or obtain associate licensure within 6 months to 1 year of hiring as a LAC, LASAC or LMSW. Once associate licensed, the candidate must participate in ongoing clinical supervision to consistently work toward achievement of independent licensure in no less than 2 years post associate licensure.

Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR and NVCI certification.

A State Hospital employee must obtain and maintain a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card pursuant to A.R.S. 41‑1758.07.

Retirement

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit.
