Job summary

New Haven Youth & Family Services seeks a School Support Specialist to help maintain a safe, therapeutic classroom. The role includes supervising students, counseling, crisis response, and implementing ITPs/IEPs while supporting teachers and staff with materials and documentation.

You will work in Vista, CA in an hourly, full-time capacity, with a focus on behavior modification, life skills, and collaborative care for at-risk youth.

Qualifications

  • Education in a behavioral field or equivalent experience.
  • CBEST credential or ability to obtain one preferred.
  • Knowledge of Pro-ACT, Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) and emergency procedures.
  • Understand Turn-Around Teacher/Counselor principles and practices.
  • Ability to follow supervision and contribute to a harassment-free environment.
  • Ability to work under stress without causing danger or disruption.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a therapeutic environment through supervision, behavior modification, crisis intervention, and life skills instruction.
  • Observe and respond to behavioral issues while encouraging social and life skills development.
  • Prepare daily program schedules and implement treatment plans as directed.
  • Provide educational support aligned with students’ IEPs.
  • Support teachers by monitoring progress, correcting errors, and preparing materials.
  • Document student behavior using New Haven protocol and reports.
  • Operate company vehicles safely and report maintenance concerns.
  • Administer medications following policy.
