Job summary

Brookline High School is seeking a 1.0 FTE Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor to provide therapeutic support for emotionally and socially impaired students as identified on IEPs within a therapeutic school program. The role primarily serves ExCEL students but may work across other therapeutic programs as needs dictate.

Qualifications

• DESE Certification School Counselor or School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor required.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in relevant field.
• 3–5 years experience in a high school setting.
• Familiarity with MTSS and Restorative Justice preferred.
• Willingness to support diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

• Assess students’ social and emotional well‑being through the school day.
• Case management with students, families, teachers, and staff for interventions and monitoring of progress.
• Engage parents/guardians and monitor at‑risk issues.
• Provide social skills training including CBT/DBT/Mindfulness and self‑advocacy goals.
• Lead emotional safety and support in the therapeutic milieu during non‑academic blocks.
• Collaborate with parents/guardians, teachers, and specialists on social‑emotional challenges.
• Crisis management and safety planning when needed.
• Assist with 8th–9th transition for identified at‑risk students.
